Finally Voip is legal in India. Many voip providers have either lowered their rates to India or in process to lower their call rates to India. Many voip providers see the potential in India voip market and are launching their services in India.
With such steps I am sure the day is not far when calls to India will be at 1-2 cents or even unlimited free calls will be possible in India. Though I am not a supporter of Betamax services, still large number of people use them and have found it to be very cheap.
Freecalls, a betamax service has lowered its calling rate to India. Using Freecalls, calls to India can be made at 2.2cents(USD). PC to Phone calls/Phone to Phone calls can be made using Freecalls. SIP calls can also made.
You can use FreeCall with the following types of Sip devices:
SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.voiparound.com
Proxy server : sip.voiparound.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your FreeCall username
Password : your FreeCall password
Display name/number : your FreeCall username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.voiparound.com
I think some additional fees will be charged when using via SIP.
Webcalldirect has also lowered their rates to India. They are now offering calls to India landlines at 3cents(USD)/minute. A few people have been asking me about sending free sms to India. Just to let them know, these betamax services can also be used to send sms to India.
